Experience the amazing sights of the Tasmanian Peninsula and the historic Port Arthur on this unforgettable 1.5 hour adventure.
Short on time and don’t want to miss some of Tasmania’s biggest attractions? Head to the Hobart waterfront and step on board the TAA seaplane!
After boarding the seaplane and motoring towards the middle of the Derwent River, you will take off and enjoy wonderful views of Hobart and Mt Wellington. Settle back and enjoy the in-flight entertainment as your pilot shows you one of the World’s most attractive coastlines. Dolerite sea cliffs, rolling hills and one of Australia’s most revered historic sites. You might even see whales, dolphins and seals – the show is breathtaking!
As you fly down the Derwent you will have views from Bruny Island all the way to Tasman Island and the spectacular cliffs of Cape Raoul – keep that thought in the back of your mind because you are going to get a lot closer to those cliffs on the way back.
Let’s now travel back in time – back to the early eighteen hundreds. After 25 minutes your pilot will land you gently on the Port Arthur waterway and you will now be afforded the same views as England’s hardest criminals experienced when they first arrived at the prison by boat – right past the Island of the Dead, where many a convict was buried. Welcome to Port Arthur – the hardest prison of its time on the other side of the world.
After an on-water interpretive experience of Port Arthur, your pilot will take off and fly south along the coast. Your pilot will provide you with exhilarating low level views of this rugged coastline and its dolerite ‘organ pipes’. Keep your eyes peeled for whales!
After 25 minutes you will land gently on the Derwent River and water taxi back to the Tasmanian Air Adventures seaplane dock.
Port Arthur Historic site is one of Australia’s heritage icons. See Port Arthur from the air and water in the TAA seaplane and enjoy commentary from our pilots as you take in the sights.
Massive dolerite sea cliffs dominate the southernmost tip of the Tasman Peninsula. See Cape Raoul and the world-renowned surf break at Ship Stern Bluff as your tour takes you past some of the most spectacular coastline imaginable.
Flying over Storm Bay, you’ll see Bruny Island to the west and the expanse of the Southern Ocean to the south. There’s nothing between you and Antarctica except a lot of water!
There’s nothing like seeing Hobart from the air and that’s exactly what you will do on your seaplane tour as you return to the Derwent River and Hobart. Take in views of Mt Wellington before your second seaplane landing for the day.
