Gordon River Tour - Wilderness World Heritage Area
Gordon River Seaplane Tour
You will board your seaplane from the Hobart docks and motor gently out into the Derwent River to begin the Gordon River seaplane tour. During this water taxi your pilot will point out items of historical interest which you will hear with ease through your own headphones. You will be treated to wonderful views of the city of Hobart with Mt Wellington as the backdrop. It is now time to go Wild.
Within only a couple of minutes you will be leaving Hobart behind and entering Tasmania’s iconic Wilderness. For the next 40 minutes sit back and enjoy the spectacular views of the World Heritage Wilderness Area. Highland lakes, vertical escarpments and trees that are thousands of years old can be seen as you cruise in safety across this unblemished vista.
Approaching the Gordon River your pilot will begin a descent that takes you down into a 600ft deep ravine. Following the river as it meanders through its timeless path you will land gently onto the Gordon River.
As you disembark the aircraft listen – this part of the world sounds like nothing you have ever heard before. And the forest is of an age unmeasurable.
A short walk will bring you to the beautiful Sir John Falls where you can stop and feel closer to nature than just about anywhere else on the planet.
With your photos complete you will reboard your aircraft and enjoy another thrilling seaplane take-off as you climb up out of the ravine and head back to Hobart – enjoying the World Heritage Area again all the way back. Congratulations, you have experienced one of the most wild and remote parts of the planet!
